Software Development
Capabilities
PADT offers a broad spectrum of software development services ranging
from simple customization scripts to full-fledged product development.
Our overarching specialty is creating custom productivity tools for the
mechanical engineering community. The following list details specific
areas of expertise:
- Customization of existing CAE tools though scripts and add-on package
- Complete custom application development for standalone design and
analysis tools
- Translators
- Process automation and expert systems
- Vertical applications
- User Interface design
Our development staff has extensive knowledge of C++, C, FORTRAN, Tcl/Tk,
APDL, Visual Basic, Java, and JScript. When applicable, we use modern
object oriented development techniques to mitigate complexity and facilitate
robust designs. We pride ourselves on crafting well-written code because
we know that the internal quality of the source code often influences
both the external quality and future maintainability of the resulting
software.
PADT also offers a number of free software
tools that are available for download.
Existing Software Products
Commercial Software Developed by PADT
- PeDAL - The APDL Editor
- xPSD - xPSD is a fast, flexible random vibration analysis tool packaged
as an add on to ANSYS.
Software Written for ANSYS, Inc.
- Auto
Contact - Auto Contact is a software tool used to automate
the detection of contact regions within a multi-part ANSYS finite
element model.
- Cif2Ans
- Cif2Ans is a CIF file translator written for ANSYS.
- AI*Environment
- AI*Environment is a next generation finite element pre/post
processor currently being developed by ICEM CFD, a subsidiary
of ANSYS, Inc. PADT was responsible for specifying the layout
of the user interface for AI*Environment as well as implementing
the underlying GUI framework.
- AnsCMS
- AnsCMS is a proof of concept project PADT completed for ANSYS.
The project focused on providing a conceptual design for integrating
component mode synthesis into ANSYS, Inc.
These tools have been integrated into the commercial version of ANSYS
and currently ship with each new release of ANSYS.
Software Developed for Third Party Companies
- TURBDES
- TURBDES is a fully parametric, three-dimensional cooled turbine
blade design and analysis package written in APDL and UIDL for
Honeywell Engines. The package represents 3+ man-years of development
effort and is used extensively by the engineering staff at Honeywell.
- Flapper
Tool - Flapper Tool is a fully parametric flapper valve analysis
tool written in APDL and UIDL for Honeywell Engines.
- UTFS
- UTFS is a streamline curvature analysis code for which PADT
has provided significant development efforts under contract to
Honeywell Engine Systems.
- LSF Submission Tool - The LSF Submission tool was written for Raytheon
Missile Systems to simplify the process of submitting analysis jobs
from within ANSYS to their in house LSF servers. The tool consisted
of a set of APDL macros, UNIX shell scripts, and a tcl/tk wizard interface.
Certifications
- PADT is an ANSYS
Enhanced Solution Provider.
- PADT has a certified LSF Administrator on staff. LSF is a load sharing
facility developed by Platform Computing.
- PADT has a certified ANSYS Workbench
developer on staff. Workbench is an object oriented application
framework for developing specialized analysis tools based on the
ANSYS finite element solver.
