— PADT Seminar Series Presents —
Better and Faster Convergence
of Non-Linear Solutions

ANSYS has grown to become the most capable non-linear tool on the market. Not only does it offer competitive material and contact capabilities, but the Multiphysics aspects of the tool push its non-linear capabilities beyond any other offering. With all this functionality, a lot of us spend a considerable amount of time waiting for a model to converge, or trying to understand why things diverged.

Using their uncanny ability to predict user needs, the folks at ANSYS, Inc (OK, the advisory group put a huge amount of pressure on them) have been adding a considerable number of tools to aid convergence, provide more precise control of convergence, and give useful feedback about convergence while models are running. These tools have now reach a critical mass that deserves their own seminar.

Therefore, the next Seminar at PADT will focus on presenting these tools, explaining how to get the most out of them, and sharing some of PADT’s experience in getting models to converge faster. Topics will include:

  • Overview of Non-Linear analysis in ANSYS
  • Diagnostic Tools for Convergence
  • Convergence and Non-Linear materials
    • How ANSYS approximates non-linear material behavior
    • Parameters that affect convergence
    • Step sizes and other options
  • Convergence and Large Deflection
    • How ANSYS handles large deflection
    • Step sizes and other options
  • Convergence and Contact
    • How ANSYS does contact
    • Parameters that affect convergence
    • Step sizes and other options
    • Contact diagnostic tools
  • Miscellaneous Recommendations and Options
    • Using restarts
    • Dealing with divergence that is “real”
    • General performance hints
    • Other hints

Anyone who uses ANSYS should attend this seminar.
