— PADT Seminar Series Presents —
Explicit Dynamics with ANSYS: ANSYS LS-DYNAM and AUTODYN

With the recent purchase by ANSYS, Inc. of Century Dynamics, the ANSYS community now has access to two Explicit Dynamics solutions.

  • ANSYS/LS-DYNA
  • AUTODYN

These tools use a slightly different solution method then traditional simulation codes to simulate events that are highly time dependent. Good examples of this are impact, crash, metal forming, bird strike, containment, explosions, blast waves, hydrodynamics, penetration, and other similar situations where there is a lot large strain over very short periods.

Although both tools have a similar heritage, they each serve two distinct sets of customers with different types of simulation needs. The purpose of this seminar is to familiarize engineers and managers with both products and compare and contrast them.

The proposed agenda is:

  1. Introductions
  2. Background on Explicit Dynamics theory
  3. The Explicit Dynamics Family Tree
  4. Overview of LS-DYNA with examples
  5. Overview of AUTODYN with examples
  6. Compare and contrast AUTODYN
  7. Using parallel solving with both tools
  8. Integration with ANSYS and Workbench
  9. Meshing solutions for both tools
  10. Tips and hints on effective usage
  11. Discussion with users on specific applications

This will also be a good time for you to speak with users of both tools and discuss your thoughts, needs and questions with everyone. If you are working with any modeling of large strain, explosions, penetrations, shrapnel, fluid-solid impact or other significant events that are time dependent, you should attend this seminar to learn how these tools can help.

As always, lunch will be served by PADT as part of the event and if you can’t make it to our Tempe Office, let us know and we can invite you to a WebEx meeting so you can attend over the internet and a conference call.

When: Weds. May 24, 2006
11:00 AM - 1:30 PM
Cost: Free. A light lunch will also be served.
