Geomagic Design X: Advanced Reverse Engineering
Geomagic Design X (formerly Rapidform XOR), the industry's most comprehensive reverse engineering software, combines history-based CAD with 3D scan data processing so you can create feature-based, editable solid models compatible with your existing CAD software.
Instead of starting from a blank screen, start from the real world. Geomagic Design X is the easiest way to create editable, feature-based CAD models from a 3D scanner and integrate them into your existing engineering design workflow.
Reuse existing designs without having to manually update old drawings or painstakingly measure and rebuild a model in CAD. Reduce costly errors related to poor fit with other components.
Geomagic Design X is easy to learn and use. In fact, if you can design in CAD, you can start using Geomagic Design X right away. It uses familiar history-based modeling tools found in all major CAD products, along with automated feature extraction from scan data.
The US Air Force conducted a study on reverse engineering tools and found that Geomagic Design X (called XOR at the time) out-shown the competition. Read the report here. If you are new to reverse engineering tools, it is also a great primer on the subject.

A Complete Scan-to-CAD Tool
Geomagic Design X works with most major scanners, or can read in point data in a variety of formats, allowing you the flexibility to get geometry in the best way for you.
Once the data is in, the software will recognize topology and start building surfaces. Those surfaces can be turned in to smart features using Modeling Wizards that automatically recognize topology to create editable features. You can also create sketches from the scan data to generate features by hand, just as you would in your CAD tool. Those surfaces can then be stitched, or used as cutting tools to make other features.
A full set of surfacing tools is also available, allowing the user to loft, sweep, or fit based on the point data you choose.
Through the whole process, the Accuracy Analyzer can be used to compare the CAD model you are creating to the scan data.
Here is a nice video showing the work-flow and the key features in the tool:
Transfer to Your CAD in the Native Format
The LiveTransfer capability in Geomagic Design X uses proprietary software to link to your CAD package and rebuild the model in the native format within your CAD tool. This delivers a model that you can now edit and modify using your standard processes.
The following CAD tools are supported: SolidWorks, Creo, NX, Inventor, AutoCAD, and CATIA
Stop Spending Days Building Models from SCAN Data
If you need to convert complex geometry from scan data to usable CAD, this tool is what you need. Instead of trying to force the process through your CAD package, use Geomagic Design X to build a smart solid, and convert that solid directly in to your CAD package.
