Flownex

Flownex is a system level simulation tool for thermodynamic modeling of thermal-fluid systems.  Used across multiple industries in the design and optimization of fluid systems, Flownex calculates flow rates, temperatures, pressures and heat transfer rates using both steady state and transient models.

Fluid-Thermal Simulation without Limitations
There are many fluid systems simulation tools out there – from simple pipe flow to very specialized industry specific solvers.  Flownex distinguishes itself by being an advanced general purpose simulation environment with unequaled breadth and depth of capability.  Where other tools do only a few things, Flownex is able to quickly simulate a huge spectrum of materials, geometry, and components in an efficient and easy to remember process.
The features that make Flownex unique are:

  • Multiple Fluid models: two-phase, non-Newtonian, slurries, gases, gas mixtures, incondensable mixtures, momentum, thermal capacitance, mechanical inertia.
  • Multiple Physics: Heat transfer, mechanical sub-systems, control systems, electrical networks
  • Integration and Automation: User defined components, MS Excel, Engineering Equation Solver (EES), Optimization, published API

Ease of Use with Breadth and Depth of Capability
PADT became interested in Flownex as a tool to help define boundary conditions for CFD simulation.  We kept on running into customers who wanted a component level simulation of a part in their system but they had no idea what the stead state or transient response of the system was.  Once our engineers used Flownex they were hooked and we now offer system level thermal-fluid simulation to our customers.  This tool has a large number of very clever features that make it very easy to build complex models that solve quickly, usually real time or better, and give information in a concise and useful way. Building a model in Flownex mostly involves drag-and-drop actions to define the system, filling in properties as values or by choosing from a very large library of industry standard definitions, and solving. What this means is that in a real world environment the combination of ease of use and breadth make Flownex a tool that usually pays for itself on the first job, and quickly becomes an important part of the users development process.
