Simulation

Simulation is a critical part of the modern product development process.  Many companies have learned that they can achieve significant improvements in product quality and time to market through the use of numerical modeling to conduct virtually prototyping of the products they design and manufacture.  By using simulation customers can interrogate and test their products before they have actual hardware or prototypes.  This is also when the cost of making changes to the design is at its lowest.

A good summary of the real world impact of simulation can be found in a study by the Aberdeen Group. The study shows how the top five product design challenges are directly addressed by the use of simulation.  It then shows the strong correlation between companies that use simulation early in the design process and the companies that are considered best-in-class.

Ready to Help Customers Maximize their Simulation Investment with a Complete Solution

PADT is a recognized leader in helping companies use simulation effectively and efficiently.  Once a firm has made a decision to integrate simulation, they need the right software tools, support provider, and outsourcing partner. Several hundred companies around the world have chosen PADT to be that partner.

When PADT was founded in 1994, the discipline of simulation was more commonly called analysis.  It was such an important part of the vision behind the company that the A in PADT stands for Analysis.  Even though the name has changed several times, analysis/simulation/virtual prototyping is still a driving force behind the company's success.

Software with Breadth and Depth

We start by reselling powerful collection of simulation software tools.  The choice of tools to represent is based upon the real world experience of PADT's engineering staff, and reflects a strong belief that in order to do simulation right, engineers need tools with the breadth and depth to solve meaningful problems.

PADT is very honored to be a channel partner for ANSYS, Inc. in the US states of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Nevada, as well as the El Paso, Texas area.   The acknowledged leader in simulation software tools, ANSYS, Inc. offers structural, thermal, fluid flow (CFD), electromagnetic, and Multiphysics tools that are unequaled in their capabilities and interoperability by others in the market.  You can learn more about why 16 of Business Week's "20 Most innovative Companies" use ANSYS, Inc.'s products by visiting the ANSYS Product portion of our website.

We supplement our ANSYS, Inc. offerings with a few specific tools that meet specific needs that have arisen in our services group, or our customers have asked us to address.  PADT chose Flownex as our system level thermal-fluid modeling system when we needed to find a way to get accurate system level loads for component level CFD simulations we were working on.  Much more detail on this great product can be found on our Flownex Product page.

Simulation is heavily dependent on the geometry that is used to create the numerical model.  Because of this PADT has taken some time in choosing tools to aid in obtaining, converting, modifying, and repairing geometry.

If customers are starting with scanned (point cloud) data, legacy meshes, or with an STL file, we recommend the Geomagic suite of tools.  Geomagic Studio is specifically  a tool that is able to take point data or legacy meshes and convert them into usable geometry that can be passed to your mesher software of choice.  It can even convert this data  to a usable CAD solid model.

SpaceClaim is PADT's "go to" tool for working with other peoples CAD geometry or for creating parametric models quickly for simulating.  Easy to learn, powerful to use, SpaceClaim has shown itself again and again to be a tool that can deal with almost any geometry need.

Support and Training that Makes an Impact

The impact that any tool has is dependent upon how that tool is used.    PADT is there for our customers to provide the support and training they need to maximize the return on their simulation software investment.  We offer standard and custom classes for all of the products we resell, as well as general training on the use and automation of simulation.  Please visit our training page to learn more, or the schedule and class description pages to explore our standard offerings.

A Simulation Outsourcing Partner you can Depend Upon

Because simulation is such a critical part of the product development cycle, it is important for companies to have a strong and trusted partner that they can count on to provide them with outside simulation services.  PADT has become that trusted partner for hundreds of companies for three key reasons:

  • Our simulation engineers have a deep and wide understanding of the software tools, the technology inside them, and the theory behind them.
  • PADT is not focused on only one type of simulation or physics.  Our staff consists of experts in most types of physical simulation, including: structural, dynamics, thermal, fluids, impact, electromagnetic, acoustic, fluid systems, thermodynamics, and Multiphysics.
  • PADT does product development not only ; for our customer's products but on  our own.  We know how to apply simulation correctly because we do it every day.

ANSYS Community

A Leader in the Simulation Community

The final effort that PADT makes in the area of simulation may be the most important. It is our support of the simulation community.  PADT is known by the simulation community around the world because of our efforts to share our experiences and knowledge with users of simulation tools.  We began this effort with our ANSYS newsletter called The Focus back in 2002.  Hundreds of articles later it is a recognized resource for ANSYS users around the world.

PADT also provides the following resources to the community:

  • Hosting for the XANSYS.org online community
  • Twice a month Webinars on ANSYS Software products and their usage
  • Articles in various simulation related publications
  • Sponsorship of key user conferences
