Sucessful Ansys Optics User Group Meeting At UofA Brings Optics Simulation Users Together

Categories:

Earlier this month, the Practical Optics Workshop (POW) at the University of Arizona Wyant College of Optical Sciences hosted the PADT and Ansys teams for an Ansys Optics User Group meeting at the Tucson campus. We were lucky enough to host the meeting at the brand-new Grand Challenges Research Building.

Agenda for the Ansys Optics User Group Meeting

Ever since I started as an Application Engineer in Optics for PADT, users in Tucson have been asking when we are going to host an event where users of Ansys Zemax OpticStudio, Lumerical, and Speos can get together to discuss optical simulation. Well, earlier this month, we were finally able to make that happen with the support of Heejoo Choi—the faculty lead for POW, Ansys R&D Engineer, and Speos Application Engineer—David Vega and Noah Hamstra, and Katie Schwertz from Edmund Optics and the Arizona Tech Council’s Optics Valley Committee.

Here is a quick recap of the event!

Ansys Optics User Group Meeting

PADT’s Senior Account Manager, Andy Nydell, kicked off the user group meeting by introducing the speakers for the afternoon and presented on PADT’s capabilities. He then gave the floor to PADT’s VP of Sales, Robert McLoughlin, who welcomed the attendees to ask questions and start discussions throughout the user group meeting. We then went ahead with the technical presentations. Between David, Noah, and myself, there was a plethora of new insights and considerations that were presented regarding optical simulation using the Ansys Optics Solution. Katie Schwertz finished things off by presenting for the Arizona Tech Council on upcoming events and opportunities for Tucson optics companies.

Audience for the Ansys Optics User Group Meeting

Overall, the meeting was a success,. The PADT team got to meet a ton of new faces and catch up with some old friends. We had great engagement from the audience and feedback from users. There was time before and after the presentations for some networking opportunities amongst the attendees, which led to great discussions and follow-up opportunities.
