3D Printing Christmas: A New Nerdy AI Generated Christmas Classic

The horizon-to-horizon blue skies of Phoenix were making it hard to get into the holiday spirit, so our in-house 3D Printing expert and Artificial Intelligence (AI) trailblazer, Andrew Smith, decided it was time to spin up some tools and generate some Christmas cheer with a new classic: 3D Printing Christmas.

The result is borderline earworm catchy, full of bounce, and littered with additive manufacturing buzzwords.

Take a listen:

And here is an MP3 version if you want to add it to your playlist for your company holiday party.

“3D Printing Christmas” by Andrew Smith. Generated with the use of AI in ChatGPT and Suno
An AI generated image of a robot singing 3D Printing Christmas next to a 3D printer. In the style of an old stop motion TV show.
I couldn’t let Andrew have all the AI fun, so I generated this image in Adobe Firefly with the Gemini Flash model.

The Making of “3D Printing Christmas”

Andrew used two tools for this: ChatGPT for the lyrics and Suno for the music. He started by asking Suno to “Create a 3D Printing Christmas Song,” but it only used one or two 3D printing terms. Too much Christmas, not enough Additive Manufacturing.

So he went over the ChatGPT and asked it, “Can you write me lyrics to a song about 3d printing but for a Christmas style. I want different terms included about the processes and terminology.”

The results read as if they were sourced directly from PADT’s 3D Printing Glossary. Here are the Lyrics

3D Printing Christmas

By Andrew Smith with ChatGPT

(Verse 1)
Layer heights are set just right,
Bed is warm and gleaming bright,
Spools of filament in tow,
Let the melted magic flow.
Slicing models late at night,
Watching previews—pure delight,
Stringing lights around the shop,
As the AMS goes pop-pop-pop!

(Chorus)
Oh— extrude all the way!
Printing through the holiday,
With PLA in candy cane,
And PETG in red and green—
Hey!
Extrude all the way!
Let the nozzle glide and sway,
Every layer stacked with cheer,
Merry prints for all the year!

(Verse 2)
Supports removed with gentle care,
Overhangs that float in air,
Brims and skirts around the plate,
Wishing prints all calibrate.
Retraction tuned to stop the strings,
Z-hop set so nothing dings,
Calibration cube so sweet,
Santa’s bringing first-layer heat.

(Bridge)
FDM elves working fast,
Fusion dreams in every cast,
Infill snowflakes 20 percent,
Slicing joy wherever it’s sent.
From CAD to STL tonight,
Bounding reindeer take their flight,
Even Rudolph knows the drill—
“Check your Z-offset until
It sticks!

(Chorus)
Oh— extrude all the way!
Printing through the holiday,
With ABS all strong and bold,
Just keep your chamber nice and cold—
Hey!
Extrude all the way!
Let the brim and raft convey,
Every print that comes to be
Built in joyful additive glee!

(Outro)
So here’s to spools beneath the tree,
And nozzles humming merrily,
May your prints come out first try,
No warps, no clogs, no fails to cry—
Merry Christmas, print with cheer,
And happy layers through the year!

Andrew then pasted those lyrics into Suno and played with some style settings. The modifications amounted to a “classic Christmas song.” The result is the catchy and fun tune above.

Happy Holidays from all of us at PADT.
