Introducing Our Presenters:

Grant Anderson, P.E.

President & CEO, Co-Founder
Paragon Space Development Corporation
Mr. Anderson co-founded Paragon in 1993. From the time of inception of the company until fall 2014, he was the VP of Engineering and Chief Engineer of the company and was responsible for the design and implementation of not only many of Paragon’s technical achievements, but also its processes of engineering rigor in a stepped approach of requirements, design, build, test and delivery.

Paragon has been exploring the utility of additive manufacturing (3D printing) and design for almost a decade. Mr. Anderson’s talk will discuss the effects of 3D printing on the mindset of the designers, the effects it has had on Paragon’s program execution and innovation, and considerations for the future of aerospace and a broader community of design and manufacturing innovations.

Dr. John Straus

Director of Product Engineering
World View Enterprises

Dr. John Straus is a lead aerospace engineer with considerable experience solving problems of fluid flow, heat transfer, and thermodynamics using experimental and analytic methods, which includes a strong background in applied CFD using FLUENT, CFX, and Star-CCM+. More recently Dr. Straus lead the team that developed the flight vehicle and launch system for the StratEx program at World View, serving also as the Launch Director for this program's ground operations.

World View’s principal innovation, the Stratollite, is a breakthrough navigable, long-duration stratospheric balloon that offers government and commercial customers the first ever low-cost, persistent platform for communications and remote sensing applications. World View’s structural engineering team relies heavily on the use of ANSYS products, and is proud to partner with the company to make routine exploration and exploitation of the stratosphere a reality. This presentation will provide an overview of World View and the company’s use of ANSYS’ software in the development of its many breakthrough technologies.
