A type of electric motor that rotates in discrete steps rather than in a continuous motion. This enables precise rotation of a shaft attached to the motor.

In additive manufacturing, stepper motors are used to precisely control the motion of components in the system, often by converting rotational motion into linear motion by attaching the stepper motor to a screw drive or a belt drive.
