Identifying Your License Serve

The Ansys license manager requires a unique identifier for the machine that is running the license server software. In order to generate a key, we need that unique identifier and your hostname. Ansys provides a program, AnsRegSrv, to gather that information.

PADT provides versions of this tool for Windows and Linux below along with instructions on how to use them.

AnsRegSrv for Windows

  1. Download the file:
    ansys_Regsrv_WINX64.zip
  2. Move the file to the license server machine
  3. Right Mouse Button on ansys_Regsrv_WINX64.zip and choose “Extract All”
  4. This should make a directory, ansys_regsrv_WINX65, go into that directory
  5. Double-click, or Right-Mouse-Button and chose “Open,” on AnsRegSvr.exe to run the program.
  6. Fill out the form:
  1. Click OK
  1. Click Create File.
  2. Save the file and forward it to whoever is generating your license.

AnsRegSrv for Linux

  1. Download the file:
    ansys_Regsrv_LINX64.tar
  2. Move the file to the license server machine
  3. In a shell, go to the directory containing the downloaded file
  4. Use the following command to extract the contents
    tar -xvf ./LINX64.tar
  5. Run the utility with the command
    ./GetLinx64Hostid
  6. Fill out the form
  1. Click OK
  1. Click Create File
  2. Save the file and forward it to whoever is generating hour licenses.
