A manufacturing process here metal or ceramic parts are subjected to elevated temperatures in a pressurized tank containing an inert gas. This causes the material in the part to compress, removing voids and increasing the mechanical properties of the material.

In additive manufacturing, it is used to compress the voices resulting from powder-based processes and to improve the properties of the final part.

Abbreviated as HIP and often referred to as “hiping” and parts can be referred to as “hiped.”
